What sets the price of a glamping pod
Four things move the price more than anything else: the structure type, the membrane and its coating, the insulation and climate package, and the interior fit-out. A rigid-shell pod (timber, fibreglass or steel) is priced largely on materials and factory labour. An inflatable pod is priced on fabric, welded or bonded seams, and how the walls are built. In a drop-stitch wall, tens of thousands of equal-length threads join two fabric layers, so the inflated wall becomes a flat, stiff panel with real thickness. That is a manufacturing step a single-layer membrane does not need, and it shows up in the quote. In return, the design avoids the few large load-bearing tubes of an air-beam structure.
Where a rigid or prefab pod is the better buy
A rigid-shell or prefab cabin pod is usually the better choice when it stays on one pitch for years, has to follow a conventional planning route, or must carry heavy fixed fittings such as a full bathroom and a wood burner. An inflatable pod earns its cost where the unit must be moved, stored flat between seasons, shipped in a small volume, or set up quickly by a small crew. Freight volume and handling are real parts of landed cost, so compare the delivered price to your site, not the ex-works price.
What to check in a quote before comparing totals
Two quotes are only comparable when they list the same things. Check whether the price includes the pump or blower, a repair kit, ground anchoring, the floor system, the insulation layer, doors and windows, electrical preparation and interior furniture. Ask which fabric and coating are used, and ask for the fabric and seam test reports. Tanda has not yet obtained third-party test data for its structures and does not quote strength, pressure or service-life figures until documents exist. Treat any supplier who gives such numbers without a test report with the same caution.
The cost of owning it after you buy
The purchase price is only part of the cost. Inflatable membranes can be punctured and need repair. Fabric is exposed to sunlight and abrasion, so the outer membrane may need replacing on its own schedule. Heating and cooling depend on the insulation, and we have no third-party thermal data to quote. Ask for written warranty terms, the repair procedure, and whether replacement membranes are sold separately. These items often decide the total cost of ownership more than the headline price.
