Shelter, command, medical, water rescue and evacuation. Emergency procurement runs on entirely different logic from hospitality: nobody here cares how it looks, only how fast it stands up, how many fit in a warehouse, and whether you can move them.

For emergency response the range splits into buildings and rescue equipment. Buildings comprise the command and office series (10–20 cm walls, for forward command posts and communications rooms), the accommodation series (20 cm walls, 6 × 4 m to 12 × 8 m, for mid-scale displaced-persons shelter, medical care and logistics support) and the large-span hall series (30–75 cm walls, 10 × 20 × H5 m to 30 × 40 × H15 m, for mass shelter). Rescue equipment comprises floating bridges and jetties (W2.5 × L9 m, deployed in 5–10 minutes), flood barriers, observation towers (240 hours continuous duty), evacuation slides and walkways (720 hours continuous duty), vehicle recovery mats (capacity above 1 tonne/m²) and inflatable stretchers. A 6 × 8 m unit deploys and strikes in under 15 minutes and packs to roughly 1 m³.

Emergency buyers judge equipment on three questions and very little else: how long from order to established, how many a district warehouse can hold, and how you move them once they leave it.

The answers here: a 6 × 8 m unit deploys and strikes in under 15 minutes; packed volume is about 1 m³, so a given warehouse holds several times what it would in modular cabins; and each unit is a cylinder one person can carry, loading onto a pickup, a truck or a three-wheeler, with hand relay into roadless terrain.

There is a fourth point that gets overlooked but that procurement notices: the structure is pneumatic. People moving in a panic collide with an inflated wall rather than a rigid one, which is a real safety margin in a shelter holding the elderly and children.

01 — MASS SHELTER

Mass shelter

At scale the constraint is never single-unit quality. It is square metres standing per hour, and whether units link into a camp with usable circulation.

Transitional shelter and logistics

Post-earthquake transitional housing is often occupied for two or three years, which makes insulation and durability matter more than deployment speed.

Forward command and communications

A forward post has to be working on arrival: deploy, connect power and data, start. No waiting for hardstanding or a crane.

Medical space has to zone, hold temperature, wipe down, and link to neighbouring units to form a treatment flow.

Floating bridges and jetties

When flooding cuts a road, the first job is putting the route back. The bridge deploys in 5–10 minutes and takes both foot and vehicle traffic.

Flood barriers and diversion

Sandbags need people to stack them, go up slowly and leak anyway. An inflatable barrier inflates and assembles in under five minutes each and runs as a single line.

Situation observation

Assessing a disaster starts with being able to see it. The tower is under 100 kg complete, carried by one person, and stands on ground, water, a vehicle roof or a building roof.

Evacuation equipment

The value of evacuation equipment is zero secondary injury — pneumatic cushioning means a collision in a panic does not create a new casualty.

Relief materiel and large equipment degrade fast in the open, but disaster areas do not offer warehouse construction.

Emergency procurement questions

How many will a district warehouse hold?
The governing figure is packed volume, not mass. A 6 × 8 m unit deploys and strikes in under 15 minutes and packs to about 1 m³. Standard R variants roll to cylinders: FC Ø0.5 × 1.5 m / 128 kg, QY Ø0.6 × 1.6 m / 140 kg, LJ Ø0.9 × 1.6 m / 240 kg, JX Ø1.2 × 1.6 m / 384 kg. For a given warehouse volume this holds several times what modular or container shelter would. Send us your clear height and floor area and we will produce a stacking plan.
What test reports does emergency procurement normally require?
Admission to an approved-supplier list generally calls for flammability (EN or NFPA family), wind-load and material physical-property reports, and some markets additionally require CE-EN conformity documentation. We can arrange testing to the standard your market nominates. Please state the destination country and applicable standard with your enquiry — testing to the wrong family means paying for it twice.
How does this compare with a conventional relief tent?
Three ways. Insulation: a 20 cm wall gives a U-value of 0.5–0.64 W/m²·K, where a conventional relief tent has effectively none and needs supplementary heating through winter. Structure: an inflated drop-stitch wall forms a stable planar structure rated above Beaufort 8 with gusts to 10, and carries over 300 kg UDL on the roof, which a poled tent cannot. Durability: it is built for months to years of transitional occupancy rather than a few weeks of emergency cover.
Can you support aid and international humanitarian procurement?
Yes. We work OEM / ODM, producing to the buyer's specification, delivering under nominated marking and packaging, and supporting export documentation. International humanitarian procurement — UN system, Red Cross and Red Crescent — normally requires a complete supplier qualification and test file with a long lead time, so we recommend engaging early to leave room for testing and certification.
